HANDS-ON TRAINING AT DLI'S INSTRUCTIONAL FACILITY

The courses offered at DLI's headquarters in Laurel, Maryland are accredited through the Maryland Higher Education Commission. The Three Week General drycleaning course is taught in two sessions: A one-week Introduction to drycleaning course and two-week Advanced drycleaning course. Students put to practice what they learn in DLI's practical instruction area by using conventional and tensioning finishing equipment, hot and cold stain removal boards, a variety of different wetcleaning and drycleaning machines, and other tools.

The one-week Introduction to drycleaning course is designed to help individuals new to the industry, including employees and owners/managers with less than one year of experience. This basic course covers:

  • Fibers and Fabrics
  • Work flow
  • Principles of the drycleaning process
  • Assembly and invoicing
  • The drycleaning machine
  • Cleaning and drying cycles
  • Elementary stain removal
  • Finishing procedures for pants, coats, and skirts

Advanced drycleaning

The two-week Advanced drycleaning course is for individuals who have completed the introductory course or employees and owner/manager with more than one year of production experience. The advanced course covers:

  • Specialty fabrics and fiber identification
  • Advanced stain removal procedures and bleaches
  • Finishing blouses, dresses, ties, all -weather coats, pleats, pile fabrics, silks, and rayon
  • Wetcleaning
  • Solvents, detergents, moisture, filtration, and distillation for perchloroethylene and petroleum systems
  • Troubleshooting the drycleaning system
  • Regulations and care labeling
  • Plant layout and work flow
  • Customer service
  • Business management

Cleaning & Stain Removal Course

One week of instruction and practical application on stian removal and cleaning procedures. The course will cover:

  • Fibers and fabrics
  • Principles of dry clenaing
  • Load classification
  • Solvents used in drycleaning
  • Detergents and moisture
  • Filtraiton and distillation
  • Drying and vapor recovery
  • Troubleshooting dry clenaing machines
  • Stain removal tools and equipment
  • Stain removal agents & procedures
  • Bleaches
